Hon. Colonial Secretary,

REG 13 JUN 07.
Mails from Shanghai are despatched every Saturday by Steamers of the E. A. Company.
2.
Mails from Tientsin, Liu Kung Tau and Chefoo are sent from Chefoo through the Russian Post Office at that Port. There is a frequent though irregular service from Chefoo to Vladivostock and time is saved by sending direct from Chefoo and not via Shanghai. This method is also followed by the Imperial German Post Office at Tientsin.
3.
The outward mails are received either (1) from Vladivostock direct by ship of the E. A. Company and taken over by the Shanghai Agents from the Company's Office at Shanghai.
(2) by steamer from Vladivostock to Tsuruga thence by rail to Nagasaki and from Nagasaki to Shanghai by steamer usually Japanese. These mails are taken over by our Agent from the Japanese Post Office, Shanghai.
(1) is the quicker.
4.
I hear from the Shanghai Postmaster that the number of letters from the Northern Agencies excluding Tientsin mail is small. The Shanghai despatch on March 2nd weighed 17 lbs, 14 oz; that of April 6th, 64 lbs, 12 ozs.
(sd.) S. B. C. Ross, Postmaster-General.
